Description: Scattered agarics, growing on
decomposing wood.
Pileus: Campanulate to ovate, whitish changing to
greyish over time, shallow longitudinal grooves
present, with a silky sheen, 18-20mm in diameter,
26-28mm in height. Stipe: White, hollow, fibrous with silky sheen, velar
remains near base of stipe, 4mm in diameter, 42mm
height. Gills: Free, charcoal black in colour with white
edges, crowded. Spore print: Black liquid - hence ink caps.
Microscopy: Cheilocystidia: Small inflated cells, cylindric. Spores: Small, oval, coloured black with a small
germ pore. 7.5-9.3µm x 5.5-7.0µm, Q=1.14-1.48,
Qm=1.30
